One of the most delightful discoveries of my photographic travels has been the extensive network of preserves, parks and natural habitats that nurture and protect our amazing wildlife. I have become an unabashed fan of the National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) system, where a small number of staff manage a very large number of acres of wildlife habitat. This collection of images - accompanied by plenty of text and links - promises to grow and grow.

My search for birds and wildlife has extended far beyond the NWR system to any number of public parks and private preserves and parks where conditions promote and protect birds, animals, butterflies and many other creatures of our eco-system. Very often, these are watery, grassy, reflective places where there is safety in camouflage.
